Lucknow: The Indian Army’s Stallions Pan-Himalayan EV Riders Expedition (SPHERE) reached the Central Command headquarters in Lucknow on October 19, promoting sustainable mobility and paying tribute to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1962 India-China War.
The 4,850-kilometre expedition, travelling from New Delhi to the Walong War Memorial in Arunachal Pradesh, aligns with the national emphasis on renewable energy and environmental conservation. The journey also aims to demonstrate the potential of electric vehicles in challenging geographical conditions.

During their stay in Lucknow, the expedition members interacted with local National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets on October 19. The riders shared their experiences and encouraged young people and the wider public to adopt green energy and environmentally friendly modes of transport.
The contingent resumed its onward journey on October 21 following a flag-off ceremony presided over by Lt Gen CJ Jayachandran, Chief of Staff, Central Command, and Major Gen PK Tiwari, MGASC, Central Command.

Beyond promoting clean mobility, SPHERE pays homage to Indian soldiers who displayed exceptional courage and made the supreme sacrifice in the Walong sector during the 1962 war.
By navigating high altitudes, difficult terrain and freezing temperatures, the expedition is testing the capabilities of electric motorcycles in demanding conditions while combining environmental awareness with a tribute to India’s military heritage.
